The Huntsville
Recorder Society
chamber group
performs music from the 15th Century to the present on
recorders from 6 inches to 6 feet tall!
The chamber group is
comprised of some dozen members. In typical Huntsville style,
members of the group come from such diverse backgrounds as
science, engineering and the arts, as well as professional
music. The group's repertoire is equally diverse including not
only the standard recorder repertoire of the Middle Ages,
Renaissance and Baroque, but also recorder arrangements of
Classical and Romantic music along with popular twentieth
century selections such as Sousa marches and
“big
band”
music.
In addition to the familiar recorder quartet of soprano, alto,
tenor and bass, The Huntsville Recorder Society plays the
highest pitched recorders - garklein and sopranino
–
along with the lowest recorders - great bass and contra bass.
