Debra Saylor

Debra
Saylor was born
in Dubuque, Iowa, on April 10, 1962. She received her early
education from the Iowa School for the Blind. At Clarke College,
Dubuque, she earned the Bachelor of Arts in Piano and Vocal
Performance. She received her M. A. in Piano and Vocal
Performance from the University of Iowa.
Debra Saylor competed in 2000 and 2002 in the Van Cliburn
International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs held at
Fort Worth, Texas. She was the Third Place overall winner in
2000, and the best interpretation of a piece in the Romantic
period for Clair de Lune. In 2002, she tied for "Jury
Discretionary Award" (third place). Ms. Saylor also competed in
"Le Grand Concours des Amateurs de Piano" in Paris, France, in
2001. She was a Quarter Finalist and opened the final round of
performances at the Sorbonne.
Ms. Saylor is currently instructor of Piano and Voice at Ars
Nova School of the Arts in Huntsville, Alabama.
Member of Huntsville Community Chorus, Nativity Church Choir,
and Joyful Spirit Singers.
Member of the Huntsville Traditional Music Association.
She performs throughout the area for a variety of functions-church
services, clubs and organizations, nursing homes, senior citizen
functions, weddings and funerals, etc. |

John Johns - Classical
Guitarist

John Johns
holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where
he was a scholarship student of Aaron Shearer, and from
George Peabody College. From 1972 to 1980 he was
Artist-Teacher of Guitar at the Blair Academy of Music. He
served as Assistant Professor in the School of Music at
George Peabody College from 1976 to 1980 and is presently
Associate Professor of Guitar at the Blair School of Music
of Vanderbilt University where he is Chair of the Guitar
Department. Under his direction, Blair's guitar program has
been recognized as one of the most highly recommended
internationally. In 1997 Professor Johns celebrated 25
years of performing and teaching in Nashville with a concert
dedicated to his friend and mentor Chet Atkins. In March,
2000, Johns played two concerts in France. He was the
featured performer from the USA at the Nice Guitar Festival
and gave a masterclass at the Modern Art Museum in downtown
Nice. In addition, he made his Paris debut at a concert for
United States Ambassador Amy L. Bondurant of the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Members of the international diplomatic community and French
government attended the performance, as well as American
film actress Olivia de Havilland.

Rocket City Brass

The
Rocket City Brass,
founded in 1988, is a quintet specializing in
audience-friendly selections of Classical and Classic, Big
Band, Jazz and Blues Standards, Dixieland and Gospel,
Broadway, Patriotic and Ceremonial music.
The group's members are George Kraft (trumpet/flugel); Barry
Stoner (trumpet/piccolo trumpet); Kent Eversmeyer (French
horn); Danny Hutson (trombone) and Philip Moore (tuba).

The Huntsville Master Chorale

The
Huntsville Master Chorale
is a chamber ensemble dedicated to providing choral excellence
for the Tennessee Valley. This group, originally the Eugene
Brasher Chorale, was founded in 1998 by Dr. Eugene Brasher, who
served as the director until his retirement in December of 2005.
Handy Avery then served as Interim Director for the remainder of
that year and the name was changed to Huntsville Master Chorale.
Tom Dooling was appointed to lead the Chorale in the summer of
2006. Tom served as music director through the spring season of
2009. In June of 2009, our current music director, Dr. Erin
Colwitz, was chosen.
